If you wouldn't have sources like Google Earth / Google Maps / Google StreetView, these days you just have view towards a regular modern residential area and you wouldn't have known about the transformation these grounds have gone through.

As featured in some other posts , the " Tagebau ", this one located near Hambach (D), eats its way through Germans grounds.
Everything has to go, in order for the " Braunkohle " ( lignite ) to be mined, even infrastructure near the towns fading, such as highways.
